Spicy Guacamole Recipe

 Recipe for Spicy Guacamole

Spicy Guacamole is one of my favourite dips. It’s also quick and easy to make and a great accompaniment to Chilli Con Carne or just served as a snack with some Tortilla Chips. You can make the guacamole as spicy or as plain as you’d like it to be by adjusting the amount of chilli you use. If you don’t have a lime don’t worry too much, a little lemon juice in its place will also work well. or if you prefer just leave the lime/lemon juice out altogether.

The smooth avocado is broken up with a slight twang of garlic and lime and a tiny kick of chilli, if you’re using it.

Variations you can make to this Spicy Guacamole Recipe

There are various other ingredients that can go in Guacamole including fresh coriander, diced red onion, diced fresh tomato. Include the ingredients that you have to hand and that you like and leave out anything that you’re not so keen on. Cooking is about adapting recipes to suit you and what you have available, and taking into consideration your personal tastes.

Try not to make it too far in advance as it may go brown (unless you can put it in a sealed, airtight tub or cover it with a little olive oil to seal)

Top Cooking Tip – How to tell when an Avocado is Ripe

Trying to find a ripe avocado can be a challenge, as they seem to go from being not ripe to too ripe in the time it takes to make a cup of tea. I find the best way to get avocados to behave as you’d like is to buy several of them at a time, and pick the one that feels the most ready when you need it. Often you can tell when an avocado is ripe by twisting the little knobbly bit at the top, if that comes off easily it is (probably) ripe.

Ingredients
  • A Ripe Avocado or two if they’re small
  • A lime
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Small amount of chopped fresh red chilli if liked
  • Small amount of skinned, chopped fresh tomato if liked
  • Half a small diced red onion, finely chopped if liked
  • A sprinkling of chopped fresh coriander leaves
Method

Slice the Avocado lengthways and remove the skin and stone. Put into a bowl.

Smash the ripe avocado with a fork, adding a generous squeeze of lime, the salt and pepper, the crushed garlic and chilli if liked. Add the tomato and diced red onion and mix well. Sprinkle with the fresh coriander and serve.

Serve immediately with some tortilla chips or Chilli Con Carne, or Burritos or a Wrap.
